Weaverham Forest Primary School and Nursery

Geography

Intent:

At Weaverham Forest Primary we believe that Geography should inspire pupils with a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

We want our children to gain confidence and practical experiences of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills that explain how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time.

Implementation:

NC objectives will be covered through our Cornerstones Maestro projects, or taught as stand-alone units should this be necessary.

A Geography Day is planned for the Summer term focusing on the name and location of the World’s oceans, continents and countries, plus major cities and key human and physical features.

Assessments will take place through formative questioning during lessons and summative records identifying pupils working above and towards age related expectations at the end of each project or unit of work. Monitoring through book looks and pupil voice at regular intervals throughout the year will ensure progress and  attainment are at expected standards.

Impact

Children will be equipped with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments.

Children will have practical experience,  geographical knowledge, understanding and skills that explain how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time.
